A Practical Guide to Human Rights in Islam

 Chapter 4

Believe in Allah

In our previous chapter, I focused on the importance of Greetings so that our day begins and ends with blessings of Allah. Here my emphasis was on human as well as Allah’s rights.

Keep in mind one thing that our Allah is self sufficient one and He does not need anything from you.  Now the question arises that if He does not need anything then why does he need our worship? If He commands every thing? Then  why did He  order prayers, fasting, zakat pilgrimage and are these the only worship?

The answer to first question is that He does not need our prayers; rather we need these to keep a balance in our lives. We need Him, He does not need us. We need law and order for our lives under which we should respect and protect each others lives and wealth so that we can live peacefully in this world.  Most of the people think this can be worked out with civilized manners but they forget that this comes from teachings of the religions. We see that civilized nations, in the name of liberty, have adopted such manners which in their view are right, for example, birth control due to which in next hundred years their generation will be lost.

That is why Islam's first condition is to have faith in Allah and His prophet (pbuh) and the condition is to accept Him as the Almighty and submit ourselves completely to Him. Whether we know its benefits or not as our knowledge is finite and His is infinite. For a long while in Europe all those who claimed Earth is round and is revolving were hanged, whereas Qur’an told us fourteen hundred years ago that Earth and many other planets are revolving in the universe.  If we take examples from Islam we can write a number of books.

Here I have proved that science, in spite of all its knowledge, is not perfect and never any of its formulas remain the same. Islam and Qur’an, on the other hand, are an authentic source of information till the end of world. If we are not able to understand anything now, it is because of our lack of knowledge. With time every question will be answered, as our knowledge progresses. That is why it is so much stressed to acquire knowledge. Holy prophet (Pbuh) said, "gain knowledge even if for that you have to go to China". We have limited our knowledge to religion only. When Muslims were ruling the world, our scholars were enlightening Europe with modern and religious knowledge. Here I mentioned Hadith, as to follow the traditions of holy Prophet (Pbuh) is also a compulsory part of our religion.  God never gave any messages or addressed us directly. He addressed us through many of his messengers and prophet Muhammad (Pbuh) is the last one of all of them. To follow him is the part of our faith and without that our faith is incomplete.

Allah is accepted by all the religions, but to follow the Holy Prophet is the first condition of our faith. Qur’an came to us through him. Its explanation and practical teachings as well are because of him. According to Hazrat Ayesha (ra), holy prophet (peace be upon him) is a role model of Qur’an.  God also said "Stop where he (the prophet) forbids you and take all that the prophet (pbuh) gives you".  Further more Allah has told us that every thing uttered by the holy prophet is divine orders.  Holy prophet introduced us to Allah with all His attributes, otherwise a sacred place like Kaba was the temple of idols.

Through Holy prophet ( pbuh), we received Qur’an and to follow it, his hadith.  If we would have accepted Allah with all his qualities, we would have also accepted the fact that he is baseer and khabeer that is, one who is seer of every thing and having knowledge of everything.  Here I would like to mention a hadith in which it is mentioned that we should imagine in all our prayers we are watching Allah it is best, and least is He is watching us. If this spirit of religion is alive in us every time every where, then we cannot commit any sin and may God bless us to have a firm faith.
